Mobile training apps: stay in shape from home

There are so many ways to stay in shape and exercise while staying at home!

Many mobile applications can actually help you get the structure and the extra motivation you need to stick to a training and keep working your personal objectives.

To get more clarity on the plethora of applications available, we asked the community of experts what are their favorite mobile training app and got some very interesting answers!

Are you using an app to train physically at home? Why would you recommend it, did it bring any interesting result?

Sara Marcum, TheTruthAboutInsurance.com: Lose Weight for Women breaks down the work out

As far as fitness goes, I have always been a mobile app user. I don’t like the vulnerability of being in the gym surrounded by other people. The couple times I did go, I searched for an area where there was no one around so I could work out alone. I think it is harder for an overweight individual to get motivated to work out surrounded by others who do not struggle with accomplishing the workouts.

One of the apps I have on my phone is by LEAP Fitness Group. It is called “Lose Weight for Women”. I don’t pay for it, so all I have is the free version. (Probably due to my inability to commit to fitness activities.) The app is great though in the free version alone. You pick the area you want to focus on and it will tailor your workout for you.

I recommend any application like it. There are men’s versions, too. The reason-it is more about interval training. I have the fitness attention span of a slug. I have not committed to a routine, ever. These apps kind of cater to that attention span. You do one activity for 30 seconds, then another, then another, and so on. I recommend any app that breaks down the work out like this, especially as an overweight woman who is stuck at home, because it is those tiny rewards that motivate me to go on to the next level.

Try using the Exercise.com app for further motivation and training techniques. Experts in the exercise and fitness field offer a multitude of insight to keep you pumped up!

Aliza Sherman, Ellementa: Down Dog yoga app and Mindful Mamas meditation app

Both yoga and meditation are activities you can do in smaller, confined spaces and you can feel results quickly. Relaxation, de-stressing, relieving panic/anxiety, strengthening. And good for breathing/breath.

Personally, I like the way I can customize the yoga routine videos for duration. I'm at 15 minutes right now with five of those minutes doing savasana or corpse pose. The Mindful Mamas app is particularly geared to moms at any stage of motherhood plus you can record your own meditations. I have a toddler and two teenagers, and I love the on-target messaging in the guided meditations. The app includes Mini Pauses or small sips of mindfulness you can practice in just a few moments, even with your others around, including your kids. Plus my favorite narrator from Down Yoga, Carina Devi, is also the voice of the Mindful Mamas app.

Boriana Slabakova, PetPedia.co: 7 Minute Workout for iOS/Android

Even though I get enough physical activity as a dog-mama of two pups, I wouldn't call it a complete workout. So the 7 Minute Workout app is ideal for helping me get targeted exercises since I don't have the time to commit to a full gym membership. Using this app, I can fine-tune my workout routine and get step-by-step video instructions to guide me through my daily exercises. The best part is that the workouts are short and intense, and over the past few weeks I've seen noticeable results.

I also like that the app is genuinely free, and doesn't try to rope you into any kind of paid subscription to get access to all the features. It's also light on resources and very user-friendly, and so far it's my favorite app to get some quick workouts in through the course of the day. Since it doesn't require any special equipment or add ons, you can just fire up the app anywhere in the house when you have 7 minutes to spare and get a proper workout guided by a fitness professional.

Mike Richards, Golf Einstein: Fitbit Coach workouts are led by professionals

One of the ways I’m staying fit even at home is by using training applications like Fitbit Coach. What I like about it is that the workouts are led by professionals that guide you through exercises. You can even choose among different levels of difficulty to spice up your routine. Even though I’ve only been using this app for weeks, I can definitely say that I’ve not only seen physical results, but I’m definitely more enthusiastic about exercise and working out.

Ahmed Ali, Indoor Champ: Nike Training Club and Interval Timer

*Nike Training Club* is definitely one of my favorite training apps out there. It takes the freemium app approach, offering access to a huge workout library with unique exercises aimed at body parts or fitness objectives and with workouts ranging from 15 to 45 minutes of varying intensities.

  • Guided workout collections allow you to focus on your fitness goals, with workouts available for full or light equipment or bodyweight-only courses.

  • Personalized recommendations are based on your workout choices, as recommended exercises spring out of your activity.

  • A premium tier offers guided 4-6 week programs, nutrition and wellness guidance, and new workout formats for users who are actively looking for better ways to get fit and in shape.

Bonus App recommendation: Interval Timer

Whether you are into high/low-intensity training, then this App “Interval Timer” can be the best thing that you can have.

Key Features:

  • Customizable sets, high/low-intensity interval and rest for your own need

  • Continue to run even when the screen is locked

  • Play your song or playlist during your workout

  • Post your workout to Facebook or Twitter I have used both the apps and got results that I need and continue to do so.
