How do I Sanitize my Smartphone?

How to sanitize phone?

The smartphone has become for many of us, an essential part of our lives. Statistics shows that smartphone users tend to give a look at the screen of their devices an average of 150 times per day. Wherever we go, we carry on our pocket computer — even when we’re going to use the bathroom.

So, you must be conscious about how many bacteria (like E. Coli or Salmonella) and viruses such as the coronavirus your smartphone might have all over it, specially if you aren’t used to clean it the proper way.We have prepared a secure, simple, and easy to follow guide to teach you how to REALLY sanitize phone, and almost completely eradicate all those pesky germs that you can only get rid of by doing a disinfect phone operation, either using a UV sanitizer or by sanitizing phone yourself as described below.

What are you going to need for cleaning?

  • A small cloth (preferably microfiber cloths)
  • Distilled water
  • 70% Isopropyl alcohol sanitizer wipes (you can buy it online)
  • Toothpick or similar non-metallic stick such as Q tips (optional)

Bear in mind that using alcohol directly on the screen of the phone, can damage the oleophobic layer it has to avoid fingerprint smudges, unless your phone has a plastic cover protecting the screen (what you can replace over time).

If you know how to make a solution with the correct proportions of alcohol and water, it’s OK. But it’s safer to buy alcohol sanitizer wipes specially made for this (this is what phone manufacturers recommend).

Then, how do I sanitize my cell phone?

Cleaning the screen and other non-porous surfaces.

  • 1. Turn off the device
  • 2. Use the dry microfiber cloths to smoothly remove the surface stains
  • 3. If there are stubborn stains, moisten lightly the microfiber cloths with the water and use it
  • 4. Once the screen is dry, use an alcohol wipe to disinfect
  • 5. You can remove the excess of moisture with a dry microfiber cloths

You can also use the alcohol sanitizer wipes to clean the back and sides of your phone.

Attention:

  • Don’t soak the phone with water or any other liquid!
  • Don’t forget to let the phone dry completely before turning it on.

Using the toothpick.

We’ll use this improvised tool to CAREFULLY AND SMOOTHLY remove dirt and fluff from openings as USB ports, around camera lenses, and also in other openings. Be careful and don’t push the toothpick or Q tips too much through sensible openings like the mic.

Cleaning the case.

For a more complete cleaning, you need to disinfect also the phone case because it will be useless to have cleaned the phone thoroughly, and the phone case remains dirty.

Depending on the material of your phone case, even if it an eco case, you can make a solution of water and vinegar (in a relation of 2:1) and then use dampen microfiber cloths with this solution to sanitize your phone case. You can also use a toothbrush with a solution of dish soap and water for hard to remove dirt on your phone case.

Attention: Don't forget to let the phone case dry completely before putting it back on the phone.

Final warnings.

Your health is very important, but also the health of your phone, right? So try not to use the following items:

  • Window or kitchen cleaners
  • Vinegar
  • Bleach and most harsh disinfectant chemicals
  • Compressed air

Also take into consideration that you can buy online some cleaning kits specially made for sanitizing your cell phone – although an UV sanitizer might be the easiest way to disinfect phone and to sanitize phone.
